NON-LIEUX (2012 – ongoing)

“The space of non-place creates no special identity and no special relationship, but loneliness and similarity.” Marc Augé
In Non-lieux, named after the book Non-lieux, introduction à une anthropologie de la surmodernité of the french anthropologist Marc Augé I am concerned, based on Augés mental framework, with the identity and perception of places, especially anthropological places and their transformation to secluded Non-places. It is an experimental study of the dynamics and statics of places characterized by identity, relation and history, and an attempt to represent places in the context of contemporary perception.
For Non-lieux I work with an obsolete analog toy camera from the 1980s that has a very peculiar and unique recording method. During the filming I manipulate the images with additional build-in effects in real-time.
